October 2022
Newsletter | No. 02
If you’re in the illustration business, I think you are already familiar with the madness that is #Inktober. Please feel free to skip ahead to the next headline!
Inktober is a worldwide annual month-long art challenge with daily drawing prompts that you tackle with ink. This can be done traditionally and digitally. The challenge was first launched in 2009 and, following a copyright registration, there has been controversy around it since 2020.
Whatever your stance towards Inktober, my issue with the 2022 prompts is that they are not that KidLitArt friendly - so I started keeping an eye out for this year’s alternatives. I also needed to be able to get started on them early.
Maybe you want to participate in one of these as well this month?
Here are some of the other 2022 prompt lists I came across. Not all are kidlit friendly and some have less than 31 prompts. There are many more, but I think 14 are plenty for starters:
I ended up choosing the #Melotober prompt list for its kidlit-friendliness and early release.
There is also a suggested colour palette to go with the prompts, but to be honest, I do not have enough time for that. I will colour the lineart that I produce for this Inktober at some point - just not this month.
For a bigger version of these images, follow me on Instagram or Facebook where I’ll be posting one lineart illustration every day for the month of October!
At the time of publishing this newsletter, I am halfway through the prompts and am also busy with client work. I might not complete the challenge, but if that happens, I have two weeks worth of cute illustrations that I can be quite happy about!
Oh my, this newsletter is very prompt-heavy, isn’t it!?
These are the ones I picked for this month:
Chipmunk - playing - on a leaf / in a flower - sparkly/gleaming - Victorian Era
Why not download three of my Melotober lineart illustrations as colouring sheets? You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy the relaxing aspects of colouring in someone else’s lines - give it a go!
… and stay warm!
Best,
Monika

Tempted to color your lines, but I fear if I did that I would never draw my own lines again :)
